How to reply to a 1-star Google review
How to answer a 1-star Google review without making it worse: name the issue, apologize, take it offline, never argue. Reply skeleton + free generator.
A 1-star Google review is aimed at everyone who might become your next customer. Your reply is not a private email. It is a public note that says: we saw this, we take it seriously, and we will not fight a guest in the comments.
Start with the specific complaint. If they waited, name the wait. If the work missed the brief, say so. Vague “sorry you feel that way” lines read as dismissal. Specific beats corporate.
Apologize for the experience, not for existing. You do not need to admit legal liability or offer a refund in the review thread. You do need to sound like a person who owns the outcome.
Invite the conversation offline. Phone, the shop, a named manager. The review thread is a terrible place to diagnose a tooth, argue a bill, or debate a no-show. Future readers still see that you offered a path.
Do not argue the facts in public, do not blame the customer, do not pile on other staff, and do not invent remedies you cannot keep. If the review is abusive or fake, you can still stay calm and point them to a private channel — or, in clear policy violations, use Google’s review tools instead of a flame war.
Healthcare, dental, legal, and veterinary replies have extra rules: no PHI, no case details, no public diagnoses. ReviewsReply’s presets encode those guardrails so a rushed draft is less likely to invent a treatment plan.
A workable skeleton: “We’re sorry [specific miss]. That’s not the standard we want. Please [call / email / come in] so we can make this right.” Then stop. Edit before you post. A human should always see 1-star drafts.
If you want a first pass in your business’s voice, paste the review into the Google review reply generator. One preview draft is available without an account. Always rewrite anything that still sounds generic.
